Participating countries

When the project was founded in 1999, specialist microbiologists and epidemiologists from each of the 15 EU countries, and the Czech Republic, Iceland, Israel, Malta, Norway, and Australia are collaborating to achieve the surveillance network aims. In 2003, they were joined by experts from Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Slovak Republic and Slovenia

With the expansion of the EU in 2004, the accession countries will be invited to join the project and submit surveillance data.
